Pepper and Iration fans know Kona is our home, but what you might not know is that Hawaii is the only place in North America that grows coffee. The fragrant scent of a fresh harvest roasting along the mountain roads, Aunty’s special cup of Joe, and sharing homegrown brew with the neighbors reminds us of growing up along the “Coffee Belt” on the Big Island of Hawaii.
Speaking of our youth in Hawaii, we would like to introduce you to our good friends at the Kona California Scholarship (http://kona-californiascholarship.org). Two Kona kama’aina (locals) who we know from back in the day have set up this non-profit in order to help Big Island youth to attend college on the mainland.
Over the past 7 years, they have given scholarships to 19 of the Big Island’s best and brightest to study everywhere from San Diego State to Stanford. Kona gave Pepper and Iration a nest, but California gave us wings to fly. We think it is awesome that the Kona-California Scholarship is helping students to find opportunity in California, just like we did …
